FA Cup: Swansea City 1-2 Bristol City – Sam Bell’s strike gives the Robins an extra time win

Bristol City progressed to the fourth round of the FA Cup when Sam Bell’s extra-time goal secured a 2-1 replay at Swansea City.

Mark Sykes put Bristol City ahead only for Ollie Cooper to set up an extra 30 minutes from time when he scored with his first touch.

Swansea had chances to triumph but it was Bell’s academy product night.

The 20-year-old ran in from almost halfway to score a memorable first senior goal for his hometown club.

Bell’s intervention was Bristol City’s second successive win, a welcome boost after a run of just one win in 12 games in all competitions.

The Robins are also unbeaten in five games, while Swansea’s inconsistent form continues.

The Welsh side had lost just once in four games prior to this one – against Championship leaders Burnley – but all hope of winning the cup was lost as they failed to convert their chances.

While Swansea’s focus for the remainder of the season will be on pushing for a place in the Championship play-offs, Bristol City can look forward to a domestic cup tie against West Bromwich Albion later this month.

More to come.
