Mansfield Town 1-1 Crewe Alexandra

Mansfield’s poor home form continued as they were held by Crewe, with George Maris controversially red carded towards the end.

The Stags have now won just once in seven games at the One Call Stadium.

Mansfield had the best chance in the first half, with Jordan Bowery, Rhys Oates and Hiram Boateng going close.

Home goalkeeper Christy Pym made his first save in the 37th minute when he blocked Lachlan Brook’s shot at his near post.

But, five minutes later, the home side produced a turnaround when another superb cross from debutant Callum Johnson from the right invited Maris to tap home from close range.

However, Crewe equalized from nothing in the 55th minute when Kelvin Mellor was first to Boateng’s loose pass in the square and fired a 30-yard shot past the onrushing Pym.

Johnson had a look at the particular marksman from close range from a corner on the hour mark only to see Dave Richards produce a magnificent reaction.

The goalkeeper then made an excellent save in the 72nd minute to keep out Stephen Quinn’s header.

The Stags were left with 10 men in the 81st minute after Maris was adjudged the last man on when he brought down Elliott Nevitt in goal – a decision that stunned the home side.
