Who needs pants when leggings are the hottest new fashion trend?

PARIS, Jan 10 — As strange and surprising as it sounds, walking down the street in underwear is the latest fashion among many celebrities who are not afraid of the cold and standing out.

A simple image of Kendall Jenner has turned this new fashion obsession into a real trend on social networks, to the extent that it has become the main inspiration of this new year.

Are celebs planning to turn up the heat this winter? With already extremely cold temperatures, it seems the season is warm enough to prompt some stars to strip down, skipping some basic yet no less essential fashion items.

Visibly, dresses, skirts and pants are out. So much so that many celebrities seem to have kicked them out of their closets, stepping out straight into panties or tights. It’s the craziest new trend right now.

We owe Kendall Jenner this new fashion fixation, which seems only moderately inclusive, as we’re sure you’ll agree. A simple Instagram picture seems to have triggered it. On it, the American supermodel poses in tights, pulled over panties that are clearly visible, despite the opacity of said socks.

Wear this set with pointed heels and a classic black pullover. If the photo appears to have been taken at home, or at least indoors, there have also been pictures circulating of the star in an identical version outside. All this is stunning, but still at the peak of current fashion trends.

In any case, nothing more than that was needed to turn a mere fad into a real trend. Even seven million likes later, Kendall Jenner’s outfit was copied all over the world.

What’s more, Google searches for the terms ‘Kendall Jenner leggings’ increased (+806 percent) just days after the star posted her photo, according to data shared by fashion retailer Pour Moi.

However, this trend was not actually started by the American model, but by one of her sisters, Kylie Jenner, in the middle of Paris Fashion Week.

At the end of September, at the height of Paris Fashion Week, the youngest of the Kardashian clan also went out without pants, wearing simple opaque tights, combined with white panties and a top and a long coat.

An outfit that, of course, she also published on social networks with the message “no pants, no problem”. Straight to the point.

And while this announcement didn’t have the same success as her sister Kendall’s, it undoubtedly contributed to the rise of this fashion trend that is as bold as it is surprising.

As a result, on TikTok, the ‘no pants’ inspiration already has a huge following, with no less than 50 million views for the dedicated hashtag. It abounds in outfits where trousers – or any other seemingly essential item of clothing – have clearly become an option.

Whether it’s building hype or setting the tone as a true fashion icon, many influencers have followed suit and shared their own pantless looks, with leggings and other underwear as the only cover.

Still, it’s hard to imagine this bold trend making much headway beyond catwalks and red carpets. — ETX Studio
