Will Vaulks’ wonder goal gave title-chasing Sheffield Wednesday a hard-fought victory over Wycombe.
The Owls moved to within three points of League One leaders Plymouth thanks to a 13th-minute rocket from the former Cardiff midfielder.
Wednesday are now 18 games unbeaten in all competitions but there are concerns for Reece James and George Byers who have both been sent off.
Meanwhile, Wycombe remain two points off sixth-placed Barnsley after losing to Charlton.
The hosts began to strain in the opening phase when Vaulks picked up the ball 30 meters from the goal.
The traveling fans urged the Welshman to shoot and he fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner.
The unmarked Callum Paterson should have made it two in the 32nd minute, but his volley at the back post was brilliantly saved by Max Stryjek.
Wednesday continued to threaten five minutes after resumption, Josh Windass’s wicked free-kick from the edge of the line deflected off the line.
Wycombe pushed for an equalizer but struggled to create anything meaningful.
