York City 4-1 Maidstone United

Shaq Forde’s dream start to life at York continued after he scored a hat-trick in a superb National League win over Maidstone.

The Watford loanee scored on his City debut against Gateshead on Monday and was even more lethal on home soil.

Maidstone got off to a dream start, taking the lead after Jack Barham headed home Ryan Galvin’s cross inside a minute.

But far from bothering York, the goal spurred them on, Forde leveling five minutes later when he slotted in after his first effort had been blocked.

And the turnaround was complete three minutes later as debutant Yoan Zouma attempted a backpass that missed goalkeeper Dan Barden’s goal and was deflected.

Six minutes before the break, Forde got his second, firing into the corner from a pass from Mitch Hancox.

In the second half, opportunities were seen in both penalty areas, but it was Forde who had the last word eight minutes before the end, breaking free and finishing for his treble.
